The Supply Teacher's corner
Working as a supply teacher for the past 5 years has provided me with a wealth of experience in teaching. I have worked on short and long term assignments through Education World and continually feel valued and respected as part of their team. I have built up a good reputation and I am fortunate to enjoy teaching throughout the academic year.
I trained for Early Years teaching initially; however, I have worked throughout all stages of the primary age range and found this beneficial in getting regular work through a supply agency. The temptation is to stick to the age range that you have been trained to teach, but, some of the best experience can be gained by stepping out of your ‘comfort zone’.
My advice is to embrace supply teaching as an opportunity to stretch your knowledge and experience as well as being a chance to get you into schools which can enhance your career prospects. Always arrive for work prepared and ready to be flexible (your memory stick is your best friend!). The Education World team have always been ready with help and advice as well as offering the flexibility that people can enjoy as a supply teacher.
