The Education Secretary, Michael Gove, has today (15/05/2014) re-assured concerned parents and members of staff at UK schools that there is “no war” on school meals and that the current coalition government provided true cross-party support on the policy.
Mr Gove said that the current unilateral support for the policy was “the rarest of political treasures” – making clear that there were no intentions to scrap or roll-back the initiative. In a joint press release made today Mr Gove and the Schools Minister, David Laws, conceded that implementing the policy on-time may prove to be the hardest target to meet.
"Some schools will find it easier than others to expand catering services, but at present the overwhelming majority seem to be on track and we are confident the policy will be delivered on time and on budget," they wrote.
