1:1 Teaching Assistant (Year 4) – Washington

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive primary school in Washington from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic practitioner who is passionate about providing individualised support and helping children achieve their full potential within a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

The school is a well-established and highly regarded primary setting with a strong reputation for providing a caring, inclusive, and child-centred education. Staff are committed to creating a positive learning environment where every child is encouraged to develop confidence, curiosity, and resilience. The school places great importance on working closely with families and fostering a culture where pupils are supported both academically and personally to achieve their full potential.

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will provide dedicated support for a Year 4 pupil, working closely with the class teacher and wider support staff to ensure the pupil can fully access the curriculum and make positive progress both academically and socially.

This is a part-time role, working 08:45–12:15 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, commencing in September 2026 as an ongoing assignment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 4 pupil throughout the school morning.
  • Support the pupil to access classroom learning and participate fully in lessons.
  • Work closely with the class teacher to deliver targeted learning activities and interventions.
  • Adapt learning resources and teaching strategies to meet the pupil's individual needs.
  • Promote positive behaviour, confidence, independence, and engagement in learning.
  • Build a positive and supportive relationship with the pupil, encouraging both academic and personal development.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to the class teacher where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with school staff and parents to ensure consistent support for the pupil.
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.

Essential Criteria

  • Previous classroom support experience – essential.
  • Experience working with primary-aged children.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A patient, caring, and adaptable approach to supporting individual pupils.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with children, colleagues, and families.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Preferred Criteria

  • Previous experience providing 1:1 support within a primary school.
  • Experience supporting pupils with additional learning needs or SEND.
  • A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification.
  • Knowledge of effective behaviour management strategies.
  • A passion for supporting children to achieve their full potential.

This role would suit an enthusiastic 1:1 Teaching Assistant who is passionate about making a meaningful difference to a child's educational journey. The successful candidate will become part of a supportive and dedicated school community, providing consistent support to help a Year 4 pupil develop confidence, independence, and success within the classroom.
