Early Years Teaching Assistant – Washington

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Early Years Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive primary school in Washington from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate Early Years practitioner who is committed to supporting young children as they begin their educational journey within a nurturing and engaging learning environment.

The school is a well-established and highly regarded primary setting with a strong reputation for providing a caring, inclusive, and child-centred education. Staff are committed to creating a positive learning environment where every child is encouraged to develop confidence, curiosity, and independence. The school places great importance on working closely with families and fostering a culture where pupils are supported both academically and personally to achieve their full potential.

As an Early Years Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and wider Early Years team to provide high-quality support for children within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), helping them develop the essential skills needed for future learning through engaging, play-based experiences.

This role will commence in September 2026 and is an ongoing assignment, offering an excellent opportunity to become a valued member of a supportive and dedicated school team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support teaching and learning by working with individual children and small groups within the Early Years setting.
  • Assist in delivering engaging, play-based learning activities in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.
  • Support children's communication, language, physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.
  • Create a safe, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment where every child can thrive.
  • Observe, assess, and record children's progress, contributing to planning and next steps.
  • Encourage children's independence, confidence, and positive behaviour through high-quality interactions.
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher, Early Years team, and parents to support children's learning and development.
  • Prepare learning resources and assist with the organisation of the classroom environment.
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.

Essential Criteria

  • A relevant Level 3 Early Years qualification – essential.
  • Previous experience working within an Early Years or primary school setting.
  • A sound understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A caring, patient, and enthusiastic approach to supporting young children.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred Criteria

  • Experience supporting children within a Reception or Nursery class.
  • Knowledge of child development and effective observation and assessment practices.
  • Experience delivering targeted interventions and supporting early literacy and numeracy.
  • Paediatric First Aid qualification.
  • A passion for continuous professional development and high-quality Early Years practice.

This role would suit an enthusiastic Early Years Teaching Assistant who is passionate about giving children the very best start to their education. The successful candidate will join a supportive Early Years team where high-quality provision, child-centred learning, and positive relationships are at the heart of everything they do.
