We are seeking a passionate and dedicated English Teacher to join a welcoming and ambitious secondary school in Newcastle upon Tyne from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic educator to inspire students through engaging English lessons and help them develop the literacy, communication, and analytical skills needed for future success.

As an English Teacher, you will deliver engaging and challenging lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, working alongside a supportive English department that is committed to delivering an inspiring curriculum and achieving excellent outcomes for students.

This role will commence in September 2026 and continue until the Christmas break, making it an excellent opportunity for an experienced teacher looking for their next role within a supportive secondary school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, creative, and differentiated English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Inspire students to develop strong reading, writing, speaking, and analytical skills.
  • Assess, monitor, and track student progress, using assessment effectively to inform planning and raise attainment.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment where all students can thrive.
  • Maintain high standards of behaviour, engagement, and achievement.
  • Differentiate learning to meet the needs of all students, including those with SEND and varying abilities.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to contribute to curriculum development and departmental success.
  • Participate in the wider life of the school where appropriate.
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.

Essential Criteria

  • UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential.
  • Experience teaching the Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 English curriculum – essential.
  • Strong subject knowledge of English Language and English Literature.
  • Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • The ability to deliver engaging, inclusive, and differentiated lessons that inspire students to achieve their best.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Preferred Criteria

  • Experience preparing students for GCSE English Language and English Literature examinations.
  • A proven track record of raising attainment and promoting student progress.
  • Experience working within a secondary school setting.
  • A willingness to contribute to extracurricular activities and the wider life of the school.
  • A passion for continuous professional development and collaborative working.

This role would suit an experienced English Teacher who is passionate about inspiring young people through literature and language while creating an engaging and supportive classroom environment. The successful English Teacher will join a dedicated department with excellent support from experienced colleagues and leaders, helping students achieve their full potential throughout this placement.
