Support Assistant – Pupil Referral Unit, Tyne Valley
Start Date: After October Half Term | Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm
Are you passionate about education and looking to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people who need it most? Education World is seeking an enthusiastic, resilient, and compassionate Support Assistant to join a dedicated Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) team in the Tyne Valley.
This is a fantastic full-time opportunity to work with students who require additional support due to social, emotional, and mental health needs, behavioural challenges, or other barriers to learning. Key Responsibilities:
- Support teaching staff in delivering engaging and effective lessons tailored to individual student needs
- Provide 1:1 or small group support to students who require additional assistance
- Support students with SEN, SEMH, behavioural, or additional learning needs
- Assist with classroom and behaviour management strategies, including de-escalation techniques
- Supervise students throughout the school day, ensuring their safety and wellbeing
- Help create a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students and encourage their engagement in education
- Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to meet student needs
Requirements:
- A genuine passion for working with young people and supporting their education
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a dedicated PRU team
- Resilience, patience, and a calm approach to managing challenging behaviour
- Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable
- Experience with SEMH or behavioural needs is highly desirable
- A Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject is desirable
- A current enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one)
