Year 1 Teacher – Islington
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Year 1 Teacher to join a welcoming and high-achieving primary school in Islington from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced primary practitioner who is passionate about delivering engaging lessons and supporting children through this important stage of their education.

As a Year 1 Teacher, you will play a key role in supporting pupils as they transition from the Early Years Foundation Stage into Key Stage 1, helping them build secure foundations in literacy, numeracy, and the wider curriculum through engaging and creative teaching.
The role will commence in September 2026 and continue until July 2027, with the potential to become a permanent position for the right candidate thereafter.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, creative, and differentiated lessons in line with the Key Stage 1 curriculum.
- Create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment where all pupils can thrive.
- Support pupils' academic, social, and emotional development during their transition into Key Stage 1.
- Assess, monitor, and track pupil progress, using assessment effectively to inform planning and next steps.
- Differentiate learning to meet the needs of all pupils, including those with SEND and varying abilities.
- Promote high standards of behaviour, engagement, and achievement within the classroom.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, parents, carers, and colleagues to support learning and wellbeing.
- Work collaboratively with the wider school team to contribute to school life and continuous improvement.
- Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.
Essential Criteria
- UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential.
- A minimum of three years' experience teaching within a UK primary school – essential.
- Strong knowledge of the Key Stage 1 curriculum and effective classroom practice.
- Excellent communication, organisation, and behaviour management skills.
- The ability to deliver engaging, inclusive, and differentiated lessons.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Preferred Criteria
- Previous experience teaching within Key Stage 1, particularly Year 1.
- Experience supporting pupils transitioning from EYFS into KS1.
- Strong understanding of phonics and early reading strategies.
- Experience using formative assessment to raise attainment.
- The ability to contribute positively to the wider life of the school.
This role would suit an experienced Year 1 Teacher who is passionate about helping young learners develop the confidence, knowledge, and skills needed to flourish in Key Stage 1. The successful candidate will join a supportive and welcoming staff team, with the opportunity to secure a permanent position after July 2027.
