Year 2 Teacher – Newcastle upon Tyne

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Year 2 Teacher to join a welcoming and supportive primary school in Newcastle upon Tyne. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic teacher who is committed to delivering high-quality teaching and helping pupils develop the confidence, knowledge, and skills needed to achieve their full potential.

The school is a friendly and inclusive primary setting with a strong commitment to providing a caring, engaging, and child-centred education. Staff work collaboratively to create a positive learning environment where pupils feel safe, valued, and motivated to succeed. The school places great importance on high expectations, positive relationships, and supporting children's academic, social, and emotional development.

As a Year 2 Teacher, you will take responsibility for planning and delivering engaging lessons across the Key Stage 1 curriculum. You will work closely with colleagues and support staff to ensure pupils receive high-quality learning experiences while preparing them confidently for the transition into Key Stage 2.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, creative, and differentiated lessons across the Year 2 curriculum.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment where all pupils can thrive.
  • Assess, monitor, and record pupil progress, using assessment effectively to inform planning and raise attainment.
  • Deliver high-quality teaching in English, Maths, and the wider Key Stage 1 curriculum.
  • Support pupils in developing strong reading, writing, phonics, and numeracy skills.
  • Differentiate teaching and learning to meet the needs of pupils with varying abilities and additional needs.
  • Maintain high expectations of pupil behaviour, engagement, and achievement.
  • Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants and colleagues to provide effective classroom support.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, parents, carers, and the wider school community.
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.

Essential Criteria

  • UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential.
  • Experience teaching within a primary school setting.
  • A strong understanding of the Key Stage 1 curriculum.
  • Strong knowledge of phonics and early literacy development.
  • Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • The ability to plan and deliver engaging, inclusive, and differentiated lessons.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Preferred Criteria

  • Previous experience teaching within Year 2 or Key Stage 1.
  • Experience delivering a recognised systematic synthetic phonics programme.
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND or additional learning needs.
  • A strong understanding of assessment and pupil progress within Key Stage 1.
  • Experience delivering targeted interventions to raise attainment.

This role would suit an experienced Year 2 Teacher who is passionate about helping young learners build strong foundations for future success. The successful candidate will join a dedicated and supportive staff team where collaboration, high-quality teaching, and positive relationships are at the heart of the school's approach to education.
