An Important Update on Holiday Pay for Education World Candidates in 2026

We wanted to let you know about an important change that will affect how your holiday pay is handled. From 1st January 2026, Education World has changed its default holiday pay process for all candidates.

This change is part of our commitment to offering a more flexible and financially beneficial approach that better supports our supply staff throughout the academic year.

At the moment, holiday pay is automatically added on top of your weekly wages. From January, holiday pay will be accrued by default. That means rather than receiving it weekly, it will be set aside in a personal holiday pay pot, ready for you to request when you need it most: during school holidays, inset days, or between assignments.

This change could make a meaningful difference to your finances. If you’re only paid during term time, any holiday pay you receive weekly is likely subject to National Insurance deductions above the £242 weekly threshold. By choosing to take this pay during school holidays instead, you’ll make better use of that threshold, which can result in more take-home pay overall. Plus, having access to income during school breaks gives you greater flexibility and financial stability across the full year.

You will still be earning the same gross amount of holiday pay, calculated at 12.07 percent of every hour you work, but now you’ll have more control over when you access it. You’ll be able to see your accrued hours on your payslip, and we’ll send regular updates showing the total value of your holiday pay pot. When you’d like to request a payment, you can do so quickly and easily by emailing finance@education-world.co.uk or giving us a call on 0191 440 9993.

If you prefer the current system of having holiday pay added to your weekly wages, don’t worry. You can opt out of the new method. In early December, we’ll be in touch via email to confirm the change. If you’d like to continue receiving holiday pay weekly, just reply and let us know. Otherwise, from January your pay will be accrued and held for you to use as needed.

This new approach brings consistency across all our teams and systems. It also supports our goal of making your work with Education World as financially fair and flexible as possible. We’re here to support you throughout the transition and beyond. If you have any questions or need help deciding which method works best for you, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

We believe this change will give you more stability, control, and confidence in how and when you’re paid. Thank you for being part of the Education World community. We look forward to supporting you in 2026 and beyond.
