Community Youth Worker – SEN and SEMH Support
We are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and experienced Community Youth Worker to support young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in the community and their homes.
This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated youth work professional who can build trusting relationships with vulnerable young people, helping them overcome social barriers and prepare for successful re-integration into specialist educational settings. The successful candidate will work directly with young people in their own environments, delivering tailored support that promotes engagement, confidence, and positive life outcomes.
The Role:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to young people with SEN and SEMH needs in community settings and their homes
- Build positive, trusting relationships with young people who may be disengaged, vulnerable, or facing complex challenges
- Develop and deliver individualised support plans that address social barriers, build resilience, and promote emotional wellbeing
- Support young people to develop social skills, confidence, independence, and readiness for re-integration into specialist educational settings
- Work collaboratively with families, carers, schools, social care, and other professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to support
- Support young people to access community resources, activities, and opportunities that promote inclusion and personal development
- Encourage positive behaviour and provide de-escalation support during challenging situations
- Facilitate activities that develop life skills, social interaction, and emotional regulation
- Act as a positive role model and advocate for the young people you support
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Have proven experience working with young people with SEN and SEMH needs, ideally in community or outreach settings
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of the challenges faced by young people with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties
- Be confident working independently in community settings and young people's homes
- Be patient, empathetic, resilient, and able to remain calm under pressure
- Have a current enhanced DBS check on the Update Service, or be willing to apply for one
- Desirable: Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to your own vehicle
- Desirable: A recognised qualification in behaviour management, trauma-informed practice, or mental health support
