The school is based in the picturesque town of Matlock and serves the local and surrounding communities. The school is currently graded ‘Good’ by Ofsted and is known for its pleasant environment and surroundings. The line manager in charge of cover is supportive and is committed to ensuring staff are given the necessary guidance and support needed to do their roles effectively and comfortably.
Vacancy Details
The school requires a bank of cover supervisors to assist with their needs throughout the year:
For those that are not familiar, a cover supervisor is a person that takes responsibility for a class of pupils in the absence of the class teacher, if for example the regular teacher is ill or is required for training etc. A cover supervisor is primarily responsible for three things:
· Ensuring that the work left for the pupils by the absent teacher is completed.
· That the pupils are managed in terms of behaviour.
· That everyone is kept safe in line with the safeguarding requirements of the school
A cover supervisor will keep pupils on task and assist where necessary. A good cover supervisor will make detailed observations in order to feedback to the absent teacher, regarding the progress made and the behaviour of the pupils. Cover Supervisors are also required to follow the schools behaviour and safeguarding policies (training for which will be provided by individual schools as there may be variations from place to place.)
Candidate Requirements
To be suitable to work as a Cover Supervisor you will require the following:
· Some level of experience of working in school, or educational / care settings (such as pupil referral units, care homes, social services etc AND/OR:
· Education sector qualifications or training, such as a PGCE, Cert Ed, Teaching Assistant quals or anything similar or relevant.
· A genuine desire to work with children.
· Resilience and perseverance. It can be a challenging role and requires mental strength and the ability to deal with difficult behaviour.
· Presence and authority. You will oversee the class and will need to demonstrate this in a friendly and professional way.

· Trained / qualified teachers that want to explore different school types before committing to permanent roles.
· Anyone wishing to network and to demonstrate their teaching abilities to schools before suitable permanent positions may arise.
· Retired teachers and other educational staff that miss being in schools but not want the pressures that come with a full teaching role.
