Textiles Teacher – Gateshead
We are seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and dedicated Textiles Teacher to join a highly regarded secondary school in Gateshead from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate practitioner who is committed to inspiring students through high-quality teaching and helping them develop creativity, practical skills, and confidence within Design and Technology.

As a Textiles Teacher, you will deliver engaging and practical lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, encouraging students to develop their design, making, and evaluation skills while fostering a genuine enthusiasm for Textiles and creative learning.
This is an ongoing position commencing in September 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, creative, and differentiated Textiles lessons across KS3 and KS4.
- Inspire students to develop practical textile techniques, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment where all students can succeed.
- Assess, monitor, and record student progress, using assessment effectively to inform planning.
- Prepare and maintain resources and equipment to support practical learning activities.
- Encourage high standards of presentation, creativity, and independent learning.
- Promote positive behaviour and maintain high expectations within the classroom.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues within the Design and Technology department.
- Contribute positively to the wider life of the school.
- Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.
Essential Criteria
- Experience teaching Textiles across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 – essential.
- Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills.
- Strong subject knowledge within Textiles and practical design techniques.
- The ability to deliver engaging and differentiated lessons that inspire creativity.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Preferred Criteria
- UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Experience teaching within a secondary school Design and Technology department.
- Experience teaching GCSE Textiles or related qualifications.
- A broader Design Technology specialism would be advantageous.
- A commitment to continuous professional development and collaborative working.
