We are seeking a caring and committed 1:1 Teaching Assistant to work with a KS1 child with SEMH needs in a supportive primary school in Heaton, Newcastle upon Tyne. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who thrives in a nurturing environment and has experience working with children requiring additional emotional and behavioural support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a KS1 child with SEMH needs, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment.
- Build a trusting and positive relationship to help the child engage with learning and develop social and emotional skills.
- Implement individualised support strategies, working closely with the class teacher and SENCO.
- Use positive behaviour management techniques to promote emotional regulation and well-being.
- Work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external professionals to support the child’s progress.
Requirements:
- Experience working with children with SEMH needs (school, care, or youth work setting).
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships.
- A proactive and flexible attitude to adapt to the child’s needs.
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies.
