Caretaker – Primary School

We are seeking a reliable, proactive, and hardworking Caretaker to join a welcoming primary school in Bishop Auckland from July 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with practical maintenance, site management, or caretaking experience who is looking to work within a school environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the school site remains safe, secure, clean, and well-maintained for pupils, staff, and visitors.

This role is expected to continue throughout the summer period, with the possibility of extending into September.

 

Working Hours:

Split Shift Pattern

  • Monday to Thursday: 6:30am – 8:30am and 3:30pm – 5:30pm
  • Friday: 6:30am – 8:30am and 3:30pm – 5:00pm

Start Date: Monday 13th July

 

The Role:

  • Open and secure the school site each day
  • Carry out routine health and safety checks across the premises
  • Undertake light maintenance and basic repair tasks as required
  • Complete light cleaning duties to ensure the school remains presentable and safe
  • Monitor the condition of the building and grounds, reporting any issues promptly
  • Support the school in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors

 

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have previous experience in a caretaking, facilities, maintenance, or site support role
  • Be practical and confident carrying out basic maintenance tasks
  • Demonstrate a strong awareness of health and safety responsibilities
  • Be reliable, trustworthy, and able to work independently
  • Have excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Experience working within a school environment is desirable but not essential
