The Role

As Head of Department – Psychology & Sociology, you will:

Lead and manage the Psychology and Sociology department, promoting excellence in teaching and learning.
Teach Psychology and Sociology at Key Stage 5, delivering engaging and challenging lessons that inspire students to achieve their full potential.
Develop and implement an ambitious and inclusive curriculum that supports outstanding outcomes.
Monitor student progress and use data effectively to drive improvement and intervention strategies.
Coach, mentor, and support colleagues within the department.
Lead departmental quality assurance, curriculum planning, and assessment practices.
Manage departmental resources and contribute to whole-school improvement initiatives.
Foster a positive and aspirational learning culture for both students and staff.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful Head of Department – Psychology & Sociology will:

Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
Have a strong track record of successful Psychology and/or Sociology teaching.
Demonstrate previous leadership experience or the capability and ambition to step into a middle leadership position.
Possess excellent subject knowledge and a passion for Social Sciences.
Have high expectations of student achievement and behaviour.
Be an effective communicator with strong organisational and leadership skills.
Be committed to creating an inclusive environment where all students can thrive.
