SENDCO – Redbridge

We are seeking an experienced and passionate SENDCO to join a highly regarded secondary school in Redbridge from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for an inspirational leader who is committed to ensuring every young person receives the support they need to achieve their full potential within an inclusive and ambitious school community.

The school is a well-established and highly respected secondary setting serving a diverse local community. It is recognised for its inclusive ethos, high academic expectations, and strong commitment to student wellbeing. The school has a thriving Inclusion Department and benefits from an Additionally Resourced Provision (ARP), enabling specialist support for pupils with a range of additional needs. Staff work collaboratively to ensure barriers to learning are removed and every student is provided with the opportunity to succeed both academically and personally. The leadership team places a strong emphasis on professional development, staff wellbeing, and creating a culture where inclusion is embedded throughout the school.

As SENDCO, you will lead the strategic development of SEND provision across the school, working closely with senior leaders, teaching staff, families, and external agencies to ensure outstanding support for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

This role will commence in September 2026 and offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced SEND professional to take on a rewarding leadership position within a supportive and forward-thinking school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop high-quality SEND provision across the school.
  • Coordinate support for students receiving SEN Support and those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Lead the strategic development and implementation of the school's SEND provision.
  • Work closely with teachers to promote inclusive, high-quality classroom practice.
  • Monitor the progress and attainment of pupils with SEND, ensuring interventions have measurable impact.
  • Lead annual reviews and ensure statutory SEND processes are completed in line with current legislation.
  • Work collaboratively with parents, carers, external agencies, therapists, and the wider pastoral team.
  • Support and develop staff through advice, guidance, and training on effective inclusive practice.
  • Oversee provision within the school's Additionally Resourced Provision (ARP) where appropriate.
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.

Essential Criteria

  • UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential.
  • National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO), or currently working towards the qualification – essential.
  • Previous experience working with students with a range of SEND needs within a secondary school.
  • Excellent knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and current SEND legislation.
  • Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and external professionals.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Preferred Criteria

  • Previous experience as a SENDCO within a secondary school.
  • Experience working within an Additionally Resourced Provision (ARP) or specialist provision.
  • Experience leading whole-school SEND strategy and staff development.
  • A proven track record of improving outcomes for pupils with SEND.
  • A passion for continuous school improvement and inclusive education.

This role would suit an experienced SENDCO who is passionate about delivering outstanding inclusive education and ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed. The successful SENDCO will join a dedicated leadership team that values collaboration, innovation, and high-quality SEND provision, providing an excellent opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of young people while continuing to develop professionally.
