Learning Support Assistants x5 – Ilford

We are seeking five dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistants to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Ilford from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a supportive team committed to helping every child achieve their full potential, both academically and personally.

The school is a larger-than-average junior school serving a diverse community and is known for its strong emphasis on inclusion, pupil wellbeing, and high aspirations for all learners. Staff work collaboratively to create a nurturing environment where pupils are encouraged to develop confidence, independence, and a love of learning. The school places a particular focus on supporting pupils with additional needs and ensuring that every child receives the individual support required to succeed.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils across Key Stage 1 & 2, working closely with teachers, SEND staff, and pastoral teams to help children access learning and make meaningful progress. The school is particularly interested in candidates with strong SEN and SEMH experience, who can confidently support pupils with additional learning, behavioural, social, and emotional needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support teaching and learning by working with individual pupils and small groups.
  • Provide targeted support for pupils with SEND, SEMH needs, and additional learning requirements.
  • Assist class teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive learning activities.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, social development, and positive behaviour.
  • Implement individual support strategies and interventions as directed by teaching staff and SEND professionals.
  • Adapt learning resources and activities to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Encourage pupil engagement, independence, confidence, and participation in learning.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teachers where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SEND staff, pastoral teams, and parents to support pupil outcomes.
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience working with children or young people within an educational setting.
  • Strong experience supporting pupils with SEN and/or SEMH needs.
  • A good understanding of behaviour management strategies and inclusive learning practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A patient, resilient, and nurturing approach.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
  • Strong teamwork and organisational skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

This role would suit a passionate Learning Support Assistant who is committed to supporting pupils with additional needs and making a positive difference within a welcoming primary school environment. With five positions available, this is an excellent opportunity to join a school that values inclusion, collaboration, and high-quality support for all learners.
