We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Secondary Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive secondary school in South Tyneside. This is a fantastic opportunity for a committed practitioner who is passionate about supporting students’ learning and development within a positive and engaging educational environment.

 

As a Secondary Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and wider school staff to support students across the secondary curriculum, helping to create a structured, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment where all learners can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support teaching and learning as a Secondary Teaching Assistant, working with individuals and small groups across a range of subjects.
  • Assist students with classroom activities, helping to build confidence, understanding, and independence.
  • Work closely with teaching staff to support lesson delivery and classroom management.
  • Provide targeted support to students who may need additional help with their learning.
  • Help maintain a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff where appropriate.
  • Support students’ social and emotional development, promoting positive behaviour and engagement.
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • A valid Teaching Assistant or Childcare qualification – essential.
  • Experience working with secondary-aged students in a school or educational setting.
  • A patient, caring, and proactive approach to supporting young people.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
