SEN Teaching Assistant – Durham (Full-Time)
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive school in Durham. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate practitioner who is committed to supporting children and young people with additional needs, helping them achieve their full potential both academically and personally.
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in creating an inclusive, nurturing, and engaging learning environment tailored to meet the individual needs of pupils with a range of special educational needs and disabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support teaching and learning by working with individual pupils and small groups with SEND.
- Assist the class teacher in delivering differentiated and engaging learning activities tailored to pupils’ individual needs.
- Create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment where all pupils can thrive.
- Support pupils’ communication, emotional regulation, social development, and independence.
- Adapt resources and learning activities to meet a range of learning needs and abilities.
- Promote positive behaviour and support the implementation of behaviour management strategies.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, parents, and external agencies to provide holistic support for pupils.
- Observe, monitor, and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teaching staff where appropriate.
Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- A minimum Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification – essential.
- Experience working with pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.
- A strong understanding of SEND strategies and inclusive learning practices.
- Excellent communication, organisation, and teamwork skills.
- A patient, nurturing, and adaptable approach to supporting children and young people.
- The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
