Teaching Assistant – Washington

Location: Washington, Tyne and Wear
Position: Full-Time, Temporary (with potential to become permanent)
Pay Rate: £13.68 per hour (PAYE)
Start Date: September 2025

A welcoming and supportive primary school in Washington is seeking a Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team. This full-time role is ideal for someone with a strong understanding of primary education and a passion for supporting pupils with additional needs, including those requiring personal care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support, particularly for pupils with SEND.
  • Assist with daily classroom activities, preparation of learning resources, and supporting the class teacher in delivering engaging lessons.
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional well-being, helping children to access learning in a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Support children with personal care and mobility, ensuring dignity and safeguarding at all times.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and outside agencies to promote pupil development.
  • Contribute to maintaining a stimulating and well-organised classroom setting.

Essential Requirements:

  • Teaching Assistant Qualification (or equivalent).
  • Recent experience working within a primary school setting, ideally supporting children with SEND.
  • Comfortable with personal care responsibilities (cleaning and changing where necessary).
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
  • A nurturing, resilient, and proactive attitude.
