Teaching Assistant (Lower KS1) – South Tyneside

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive school in South Tyneside, working within Lower Key Stage 1. This is a fantastic opportunity for a committed practitioner who is passionate about supporting pupils’ learning and development in a positive and engaging classroom environment.

 

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and wider school staff to support pupils across the curriculum, helping to create a structured, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment where all children can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support teaching and learning as a Teaching Assistant, working with individuals and small groups in Lower KS1.
  • Assist pupils with classroom activities, helping to build confidence, understanding, and independence.
  • Work closely with the class teacher to support lesson delivery and classroom management.
  • Provide targeted support to pupils who may need additional help with their learning.
  • Help maintain a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to the teacher where appropriate.
  • Support pupils’ social and emotional development, promoting positive behaviour and engagement.
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • A Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (minimum requirement).
  • Experience working with primary-aged children, ideally within Lower KS1.
  • A patient, caring, and proactive approach to supporting pupils.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
