1:1 Teaching Assistant – Newcastle (Primary School | Year 5)

 

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in Newcastle. This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced 1:1 Teaching Assistant to provide targeted support to a pupil in Year 5, helping them to access learning and thrive within the classroom environment.

 

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and wider staff team to support the pupil’s academic progress, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing. The successful 1:1 Teaching Assistant will play a key role in building a positive relationship with the pupil and implementing effective strategies to support engagement and learning.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support as a 1:1 Teaching Assistant for a Year 5 pupil.
  • Support the pupil’s learning by adapting tasks and providing clear guidance.
  • As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, implement behaviour management strategies to support engagement and positive outcomes.
  • Build a strong, trusting relationship with the pupil to support their confidence and development.
  • Work closely with the class teacher to deliver tailored support and interventions.
  • Monitor and record progress, providing feedback to staff as required.
  • Support the pupil’s social and emotional development.
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Previous experience working as a 1:1 Teaching Assistant or providing 1:1 support within a classroom setting – essential.
  • Strong behaviour management skills – essential.
  • Experience supporting pupils in a primary school setting.
  • A patient, resilient, and proactive approach.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
