Early Years Teaching Assistant – Newcastle upon Tyne

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Early Years Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive primary school in Newcastle from September 2026. This is a fantastic long-term opportunity for a passionate early years practitioner who is committed to supporting young children during the crucial first stages of their educational journey.

The school is a well-established primary setting with a strong reputation for providing a nurturing and inclusive learning environment. Staff work closely together to ensure that every child feels valued, supported, and encouraged to achieve their full potential. The school places a significant emphasis on early language development, personal growth, and creating engaging learning experiences that foster confidence, curiosity, and independence from an early age.

As an Early Years Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and wider Early Years team to support children's learning and development through high-quality, play-based learning. This is a long-term ongoing position starting in September 2026, offering stability and the opportunity to become a valued member of the school community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support teaching and learning within the Early Years setting, working with individual children and small groups.
  • Assist in delivering engaging, play-based activities in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.
  • Support children's communication, language, literacy, numeracy, and personal development.
  • Help create a safe, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment where all children can thrive.
  • Observe, monitor, and record children's progress, contributing to assessments and planning.
  • Support children in developing independence, confidence, and positive social skills.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and parents to support children's development.
  • Assist with daily routines and classroom organisation.
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • A minimum Level 2 Early Years qualification – essential.
  • Experience working within an Early Years setting, nursery, or Reception class.
  • A strong understanding of the EYFS framework and child development.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A caring, patient, and enthusiastic approach to supporting young children.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

This role would suit a passionate Early Years Teaching Assistant who enjoys supporting young children as they begin their learning journey. The school is looking for an individual who can contribute positively to its nurturing environment and help children develop the strong foundations they need for future success.
