English Teacher – Newcastle
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient English Teacher to join a supportive and inclusive alternative provision setting in the Newcastle area. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate English Teacher to work within an environment that places a strong emphasis on student wellbeing, engagement, and helping young people achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally.
The setting supports students with a range of additional needs and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, providing a structured and nurturing learning environment where relationships and consistency are central to student success. Staff work collaboratively to create engaging lessons and tailored support that helps students build confidence, resilience, and independence.
As an English Teacher, you will deliver engaging English lessons that support students of varying abilities while encouraging progress in literacy, communication, and self-expression.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging English lessons tailored to students’ individual needs and abilities.
- Support students to achieve their academic potential within English.
- As an English Teacher, create a positive and structured classroom environment that promotes engagement and progress.
- Manage behaviour effectively using consistent and supportive strategies.
- Differentiate lessons and resources to meet the needs of all learners.
- Build positive relationships with students to encourage confidence and participation.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and wider staff to support student development and wellbeing.
- Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in English – essential.
- Experience working with students with SEMH needs – essential.
- Strong English subject knowledge and the ability to engage learners with varying needs.
- Previous experience teaching within a secondary school or alternative provision setting – desirable.
- Excellent classroom management and behaviour support skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A flexible, proactive, and resilient approach.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
