We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Primary Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive primary school in Gateshead. This is a fantastic opportunity for a committed practitioner who is passionate about supporting children’s learning and development within a positive and engaging classroom environment.

 

As a Primary Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and wider school staff to support pupils across the primary curriculum, helping to create a structured, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment where all children can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support teaching and learning as a Primary Teaching Assistant, working with individuals and small groups across the primary age range.
  • Assist pupils with classroom activities, helping to build confidence, understanding, and independence.
  • Work closely with the class teacher to support lesson delivery and classroom management.
  • Provide targeted support to pupils who may need additional help with their learning.
  • Help maintain a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff where appropriate.
  • Support pupils’ social and emotional development, promoting positive behaviour and engagement.
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • A valid Teaching Assistant or Childcare qualification – essential.
  • Experience working with primary-aged children in a school or educational setting.
  • A patient, caring, and proactive approach to supporting pupils.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
