SEMH Teacher – South Tyneside

 

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated SEMH Teacher to join our supportive school community. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified teacher who is committed to providing exceptional education for students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The successful candidate will help students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally within a structured, nurturing, and inclusive environment.

 

As a SEMH Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality lessons tailored to the individual needs of SEMH students, creating a positive and engaging learning environment, and supporting their overall wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons for SEMH students, adapting resources to meet their individual needs as a SEMH Teacher.
  • Support the development of students’ social, emotional, and behavioural skills, promoting positive learning habits and resilience.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, using data and observations to inform personalised learning strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, SENCO, and other staff to implement interventions and support plans.
  • Build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues to support holistic student development.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and structured classroom environment that supports SEMH students’ learning and wellbeing.
  • Ensure safeguarding and wellbeing policies are followed at all times.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential.
  • Experience working with SEMH students – highly desirable.
  • Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to create engaging, differentiated lessons.
  • A caring, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting students’ social and emotional needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
