SEN Teacher – Durham (All-Through SEN School)

 

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated SEN Teacher to join a welcoming and supportive all-through SEN school in Durham. This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic SEN Teacher who is committed to supporting pupils with additional needs and creating an inclusive, nurturing learning environment where every student can thrive.

 

As an SEN Teacher, you will work with pupils across a range of ages and abilities, delivering personalised learning that supports both academic progress and social development. The successful SEN Teacher will play a key role in adapting the curriculum and using a variety of strategies to meet the diverse needs of learners.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons as an SEN Teacher to meet the needs of pupils with a range of additional needs.
  • Support pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development through tailored approaches.
  • As an SEN Teacher, implement individual education plans (IEPs) and EHCP targets effectively.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment that promotes independence and confidence.
  • Work closely with support staff, therapists, and external professionals.
  • Monitor and assess pupil progress, adapting teaching strategies as required.
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour and achievement.
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • A valid Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential.
  • Full right to work in the UK – essential.
  • Experience working as an SEN Teacher or supporting pupils with additional needs.
  • A strong understanding of SEND and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Excellent classroom management and behaviour support skills.
  • A patient, nurturing, and adaptable approach to teaching.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
