SEN Teacher – Gateshead (Summer Term | Part-Time)
We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable SEN Teacher to join a specialist provision in the Gateshead area for the summer term. This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced SEN Teacher to work with secondary and post-16 learners with a range of additional needs, delivering personalised and impactful teaching.
The successful SEN Teacher will support pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH needs, and general learning difficulties, delivering tailored sessions focused primarily on English at Entry Level, Functional Skills, and Key Stage 2 level. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference through one-to-one teaching.
Working Pattern
- Monday to Thursday
- Afternoons (with potential to offer 4 full days for the right SEN Teacher)
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver 1:1 sessions as an SEN Teacher, typically in 30-minute teaching slots.
- Plan and deliver tailored English lessons at Entry Level, Functional Skills, and KS2 level.
- Adapt teaching approaches to meet the needs of learners with a range of SEND.
- As an SEN Teacher, support students’ academic progress as well as their confidence and engagement.
- Contribute to other areas of the curriculum where appropriate, such as preparation for adulthood, employability skills, or IT.
- Monitor and assess student progress, adapting sessions accordingly.
- Create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.
- Ensure safeguarding procedures and policies are followed at all times.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential.
- Experience working as an SEN Teacher or supporting pupils with additional needs – highly desirable.
- Experience delivering English at Entry Level, Functional Skills, or KS2 level.
- A strong understanding of SEND, including ASD, ADHD, and SEMH.
- The ability to deliver engaging and personalised 1:1 sessions.
- A flexible and proactive approach to teaching.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
