SENDCo – Secondary School, Gateshead (Full-Time)

 

We are seeking an experienced and proactive SENDCo to join a forward-thinking secondary school in Gateshead. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate leader to take responsibility for the strategic development and day-to-day management of the school’s SEND provision, ensuring all students receive the support they need to succeed.

 

As the SENDCo, you will lead the SEND team, oversee the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCPs, and work closely with staff, students, and parents to promote an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the school’s SEND provision as the SENDCo.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCPs for students with additional needs.
  • Provide guidance and support to teaching staff on differentiated planning, classroom strategies, and behaviour management for SEND students.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of SEND students, identifying interventions and support strategies as needed.
  • Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure a coordinated approach to SEND support.
  • Lead and support the SEND team, providing training and professional development opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory SEND legislation and school policies.
  • Promote an inclusive school culture and advocate for the needs of all students.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • A relevant SENDCo qualification – essential.
  • Experience working as a SENDCo or in a leadership role within SEND in a secondary school setting.
  • Strong knowledge of SEND legislation, frameworks, and best practice.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents.
  • A proactive, solution-focused approach to supporting students with additional needs.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
