Year 3 Teaching Assistant – Gateshead
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Year 3 Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive primary school in Gateshead from September 2026. As a Year 3 Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and wider support staff to provide high-quality classroom support, helping pupils to access learning and make strong progress across the curriculum.
This position will commence in September 2026 and initially run until October half term, with the potential to continue on an ongoing basis thereafter for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Support teaching and learning within a Year 3 classroom, working with individual pupils and small groups.
- Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and effective lessons across the Key Stage 2 curriculum.
- Provide targeted support to pupils who require additional help with their learning.
- Help create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment.
- Support pupils' academic, social, and emotional development.
- Encourage positive behaviour, engagement, and independence in learning.
- Adapt learning resources and activities to meet the needs of individual pupils.
- Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to the class teacher where appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, parents, and other professionals to support pupil outcomes.
Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.
Essential Criteria
- Experience working with children within a primary school or educational setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A patient, caring, and enthusiastic approach to supporting children.
- The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Preferred Criteria
- A minimum Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification.
- Previous experience supporting pupils within Key Stage 2.
- Experience delivering interventions or small group support.
- Knowledge of the primary curriculum and classroom support strategies.
- Experience supporting pupils with additional learning needs.
